The Road

 

This geometric design "teases the eye",
As we try to discern which direction is "up" or "down".
Our lives and spiritual journeys can often feel convoluted, too.
Sometimes it seems with every step forward, we take ten steps backward --
Not to mention the times we stumble and fall !

The renowned Trappist monk, Thomas Merton,
Wrote a beautiful and humble prayer which reflects this journey:

"My Lord God, I have no idea where I'm going,
I do not see the road ahead of me,
I cannot know for certain where it will end. . . ."

If we place our hand in the Lord's,
Utterly confident that He will, as Merton said,
"Lead us by the right road, though we may know nothing about it" --
Our Journey will be filled with Grace and Peace --
And lead us into the arms of the Lord, at the end of our road.

In the 16th Century, Martin Luther famously wrote:
". . . We are not yet what we shall be, but we are gorwing toward it. . . .
This is not the end, but it is the road."
